LAUSANNE, November 15, 2019 - Registration for the 83rd AIPS Congress which will be held in Budapest, Hungary from February 3 - 6, 2020 is now open.
For the first time after 21 years, the AIPS Congress returns to Budapest.
- It will be three intense days and I thank the Hungarian Sports Journalists’ Association and Balázs Fürjes for their efforts in organising this Congress, which will be another milestone in our history - said AIPS President Gianni Merlo.
- This appointment will be very important, because it will allow us to continue our evolutionary process. The journalistic environment is changing, but our profession still preserves its basic principles: independence, honesty, rigour in fact checking and the verification of sources.
The Director of the Organizing Commitee and Vice-President of the Hungarian Sport Journalists’ Association Zsuzsa Csisztu unveiled all the enthusiasm of the Hungarian capital:
- It is a great opportunity and honor for me to welcome the world’s best sports journalist in my hometown, Budapest, where we would like to celebrate the excellence of our beloved profession. Besides the most relevant topics affecting sports journalism nowadays, I believe that emphasis will be given to the position of the female in our profession worldwide, and to the new ways to empower their role on a daily basis.
President of the Hungarian Sports Press Association Gyorgy Szollosi pointed out on the tight historical bond between AIPS and the Hungarian sports press:
- In 2019, the Hungarian Sports Journalists’ Association turned 110 years old. We are proud to be one of the world’s oldest professional sports journalists’ organisations, that our representatives were present at the foundation of AIPS in 1924 and that we could be one of the eight founding nations. We are also proud of the previous three AIPS congresses in Budapest (in 1965, 1992 and 1999) and of the fact that, for a few years at the end of the last century, AIPS had its headquarters and office in Budapest.
As it happened in Lausanne 2019, the 2nd edition of the AIPS Sport Media Awards Award Ceremony - the initiative created to revive the value and importance of sports journalism - will open the Congress.
Registration will be available for a maximum of two delegates for each National Association. According to AIPS policy, additional guests and observers will be required to pay a fee of Euro 300 to cover accommodation and organisational expenses.
Registration will be available on www.aipsmedia.com homepage.
